The Miniature Downdraft Blacklight (UV) Trap is similar to the CDC Miniature Light Trap, but includes a blacklight tube support and ballast. Blacklight (UV) aids in attracting a greater number and diversity of mosquito species, Culicoides, and Phlebotomines.

The Miniature Downdraft Blacklight (UV) Trap is similar to the CDC Miniature Light Trap, but includes a blacklight tube support and ballast which runs at 12 volts.

BlackLight (UV)

The utility of blacklight (UV) in attracting a greater number and diversity of mosquito species, Culicoides, and Phlebotomines is well known. Our UV traps employ a 4 Watt blue-blacklight tube and a very efficient transistorized inverter-ballast to provide radiation in the near-UV range (ca. 320-420 nm). The special inverter ballast is able to start the 4-W blue blacklight tube at battery voltages a low as 9.5 VDC.
